Recreation Centres


The Ministry of Social Security, National Solidarity and Environment and Sustainable Development operates to date three recreation centres namely; JBD RC at Pointe Aux Sables, SSR RC at Belle Mare and LSR RC at Pointe Aux Piments.




Recreation centres were set up to host residential holiday camps for senior citizens as well as persons with disabilities and as such provides accommodation in double bedrooms, food and beverages, indoor entertainment, swimming pool activities, outdoor tours in coach and targeted empowerment talk sessions. The aim is to ensure a comfortable, safe, recreational and hospitable retreat to our elderly people and disabled residents and thus giving them opportunities to cut off from their daily routine life.


Vision, Mission and Objective of Recreation Centres:


             ·Vision:      To help our senior citizens and persons with disabilities to live                                         ​         gracefully and  in dignity.

            ·Mission:  To promote a successful ageing and enhance the quality of life and                                   life satisfaction of our elderly citizens as well as persons with disabilities.

            ·Objective: To organize two nights residential leisure and recreational activities for
                           elderly persons aged 55 years and above as well as persons with disabilities.


          Eligibility criteria:

Target Group:             Elderly persons aged 55 years and above and disabled            persons

Duration of stay:         2 Nights

Rate per person:          Rs 250 


Package inclusive of :

1. Accommodation

2. Food & Beverages (excluding alcoholic beverages)

3. Organised tour in a luxury coach

4. Entertainment: Cultural Programme/Games/ Soiree Dansante etc

5. Talks targeted for elderly persons (empowerment sessions)

6. Swimming Pool Sessions (In-House)

Presentation of the National Identity Card or Disability Card, whichever applicable, is MANDATORY during check-in by participants for a stay

Senior Citizens Associations are entitled to the following stays at the Recreation Centres in a period of one year:

  • ​​       Associations with less than 200 members: One stay only for a maximum of 50 members
  •       Associations with 200 - 499 members: Two stays for a maximum of 50 members each
  •       Associations with 500 members and above: Three stays for a maximum of 50 members each


All eligible individual participants are entitled to only one stay at any of our Recreation Centres during an accommodation period of thirteen to fifteen months depending on the number of applications received. 

Non-eligible and/or non-compliant participant will not be registered for a stay at check-in.

Maximum Accommodation (for a minimum of two associations) are as follows for each recreation centre:

LSR RC: 110 persons in 55 twin sharing bedrooms - Lady Sushil Ramgoolam Recreation Centre​

SSR RC: 80 persons in 40 twin sharing bedrooms - Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam Recreation Centre

JBD RC: 110 persons in 28 twin sharing bedrooms and 18 triple sharing bedrooms​ - James Burty David Recreation Centre


Procedure for booking:

Presently,  application to be done in writing.


Soon,  application to be done via online booking system. (Public will be made aware through press communiqué)

Closure of Centre :

  • As from Cyclone warning class1
  • Sudden Torrential warning forecast by Mauritius Meteoroligical Services
