Health Promotion and Disease Prevention
Health talks are carried out by Nursing Officers once monthly, where elderly persons from the community attend. Each month an activity concerning a specific health problem is carried out. Resource persons such as doctors, nurses and health educators provide their services. The topics addressed are diabetes, hypertension, cardiovascular disease, mental health, falls in the elderly, and palliative care. Elderly persons are screened for diabetic mellitus and hypertension. Patients with diabetes benefit from foot care demonstrations and foot hygiene in order to prevent leg amputations.
