Dependent’s Benefit

Payable –

  • where an employee or self-employed dies as a result of an industrial injury or has disappeared during the course of his employment/profession, trade or business and leaves no surviving spouse.
  • to a close relative (other than an orphan) who:
  • was living in the same household; and
  • was wholly or partly dependent on the earnings of the deceased employee or self-employed.

 

NOTE: The meaning of a relative is given at Section 29, Subsection 29(4b), of the SCSB Act 2021

The Dependent’s Benefit is payable at the prescribed rate.

  1. Birth Certificate;
  2. National Identity Card of applicant and deceased employee/self-employed;
  3. Death Certificate of the deceased employee /self-employed; and
  4. Bank Account number and Name of Bank. In the case of a joint account, the National Identity Card(s) of Joint account holder(s) should be produced.

Application may be registered at the Social Security Office nearest to the applicant’s locality.
