National Solidarity Fund

 
      

 INTRODUCTION

                 The National Solidarity Fund (NSF) was set up as a body corporate under the National Solidarity
                  Fund Act 1991(amended 2005 and 2011) under the aegis of the Ministry of Social Security,
                  National Solidarity and Reform Institutions.  


                       OBJECTIVES OF THE FUND
                

                 The objects of the Fund shall be –

       (a) to provide financial assistance to citizens of Mauritius residing in Mauritius, who may require                    surgical operations which can only be performed abroad or in medical institutions in Mauritius
           
approved by the Ministry of Health;   

         (b) to provide financial assistance to redundant workers;

         (c) to provide, with the approval of the Minister, financial assistance directly to individuals who
             have undergone severe personal hardship.


         VISION AND MISSION

 Vision

            The vision of the Fund is to promote a society based on National Solidarity.
          

            Mission

            The mission of the Fund is to find better ways of assisting beneficiaries and contribute to alleviate
            their hardship)

            

                                       ASSISTANCE PRESENTLY COVERED UNDER SEVERE PERSONAL HARDSHIP      

                  

                   All applications are considered on a case to case basis.  Assistance are provided subject to
                   meeting    eligibility criteria set by the Board.

               

CATEGORY Documents to be produced:

Overseas Treatment

1. Letter of Application
2. Copy of ID
3. Original Medical certificate nature of medical treatment
4. Receipt of expenses incurred(medical and air tickets) or quotation
    (as applicable)
5. Letter from M/Health specifying assistance through the
    Overseas Treatment Scheme
6. Boarding pass


Air Tickets

Full refund of cost of air ticket for both patient and accompanying person provided that the MOH certify that the patient need an accompanying person.


Local Treatment
(Emergency Cases)


1. Letter of application
2. Copy of id
3. Original Medical certificate nature of medical treatment undergone
4.  Receipt of expenses incurred


Incurable Disease
(Exc. Chronic Disease)


1. Letter of application
2. Copy of Id
3. Medical certificate from Ministry of Health certifying that
    patient's condition is severe


Cancer and Other Severe Medical Cases (Lupus,renal failure etc.)

3. Medical Certificate (Original) from specialist treating doctor
4. Proof of address
5. Birth Certificate
6. Marriage Certificate


Drugs/Medication

(Expensive drugs not available in Govt Hospital)

Oxygen Therapy

3. Medical certificate from Ministry of Health, certifying domiciliary oxygen
    needed
4.Receipts of oxygen cylinders/apparatus purchased


Subsistence allowance
(Rodrigues)

A subsistence allowance of Rs200 per day to Rodriguan patients referred by the Government Medical Officer to Mauritius treatment subject to the applicants meeting the established criteria.

Assistive Devices

     to use a motorized/electric wheelchair

Nappies

3. Medical Certificate stating use of nappies
4. Receipts of expenses


Refund of University Fees/Course fees

1. Letter of application
2. Copy of ID
3. Certificate of attendance
4. Receipts of payments

Assistance is subject to no scholarship or assistance received


Refund of SC/HSC exams fees

1. Letter of application
2. Copy of id
3. Memo from school
4. Original receipt / Certified receipt of exams fees paid
5. Disallowance claim from M/SS


Destitutes

1. Letter of application
2. Copy of ID
3. Original memo from school (where applicable)
4. Original medical certificate from MOH (where applicable)

6. Police Memo/Fire memo in fire cases (where applicable)



Tragic Accident

Repatriation of Mortal Remains

                                       COMPOSITION OF THE NATIONAL SOLIDARITY FUND BOARD                          

                     The Board consists of:

              (a)    a Chairperson (appointed by the Minister)

              (b)   The Permanent Secretary of  Ministry of Social Security, National Solidarity & RI or
        his representative

              (c)  The Secretary for Home Affairs or his representative

              (d)  The Financial Secretary or his representative

              (e) The Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Health and Quality of life or his representative

 

              (f)  a representative of Mauritius Tax payers’ Association

              (g)  a representative of Mauritius Employers’ Federation

              (h)  a representative of Employees’ Trade Unions appointed by the Minister); and

 

               (i)  a representative of Mauritius Council of Social Services
