Protection Unit (WEPPU)<\/strong> has been set up following the enactment of The Protection of Elderly Persons&#8217; Act 2005.<\/span><\/p><p><span class=\"ms-rteFontFace-5 ms-rteFontSize-3\">The main functions of the<\/span><span class=\"ms-rteFontFace-5 ms-rteFontSize-3\">\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"ms-rteFontFace-5 ms-rteFontSize-3\">Welfare and Elderly Persons Protection<\/span><span class=\"ms-rteFontFace-5 ms-rteFontSize-3\">\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"ms-rteFontFace-5 ms-rteFontSize-3\">Unit are to:<\/span><\/p><ul><li><p><span class=\"ms-rteFontFace-5 ms-rteFontSize-3\">Deal with complaints from elderly persons who are in need of assistance or protection and take such measures as may be necessary.<\/span><\/p><\/li><li><p><span class=\"ms-rteFontFace-5 ms-rteFontSize-3\"><span class=\"ms-rteFontFace-5 ms-rteFontSize-3\">Organise public awareness and sensitization campaigns on the rights of the elderly and the need to provide them with assistance and protection.<\/span><\/span><\/p><\/li><\/ul><p><span class=\"ms-rteFontFace-5 ms-rteFontSize-3\"><span class=\"ms-rteFontFace-5 ms-rteFontSize-3\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p><p><strong class=\"ms-rteFontFace-5 ms-rteFontSize-3\" style=\"background-color: transparent; color: var( --e-global-color-text ); font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif;\">Services Provided<br \/><\/strong><\/p><ul><li><p><span class=\"ms-rteFontFace-5 ms-rteFontSize-3\">Intervention in reported cases of Elder Abuse through proper mediation, negotiation, family conferencing, referrals, etc. <\/span><\/p><\/li><li><p><span class=\"ms-rteFontFace-5 ms-rteFontSize-3\">Processing of applications for admission in Charitable Institutions<\/span><\/p><\/li><li><p><span class=\"ms-rteFontFace-5 ms-rteFontSize-3\">Organising public awareness campaigns on the rights of elderly <\/span><\/p><\/li><li><p><span class=\"ms-rteFontFace-5 ms-rteFontSize-3\">Exercising general supervision and control over Residential Care Homes in line with the Residential Care Homes Act 2003 and Residential Care Homes Regulations 2005<br \/><\/span><\/p><\/li><li><p><span class=\"ms-rteFontFace-5 ms-rteFontSize-3\">Participating in birthday celebration of centenarians<\/span><\/p><\/li><li><p><span class=\"ms-rteFontFace-5 ms-rteFontSize-3\">Supervise and organize activities for the wellbeing of the elderly at Elderly Day Care Centres<\/span><\/p><\/li><li><p><span class=\"ms-rteFontFace-5 ms-rteFontSize-3\">Hotlines: 172 is operational from 9.00 am to 4.00 pm and 199 is operational on 24 hours\/7days basis<\/span><\/p><\/li><\/ul><p><span class=\"ms-rteFontFace-5 ms-rteFontSize-3\"><a href=\"https:\/\/socialsecurity.govmu.org\/socialsecurity\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/Charitable-Institutions-List_27May2025.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">List of Charitable Institutions<\/a>\u200b<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/socialsecurity.govmu.org\/socialsecurity\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/Private-Residential-Care-Homes-List_27May2025.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">List of Private Reside\u200b\u200b\u200bntial \u200bCare Homes\u200b\u200b\u200b\u200b<\/a><br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/socialsecurity.govmu.org\/socialsecurity\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/list-of-edcc-10.11.2023.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">List of Elderly Da\u200by Care Centres\u200b<\/a><\/span><\/p><p><a href=\"https:\/\/socialsecurity.govmu.org\/socialsecurity\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/List-Respite-Care-Centre_27May2025.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">List of Respite Care Centre<\/a><\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><div>\u00a0<\/div>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Welfare and Elderly Persons&#8217;
